Adobe® Reader®
Most downloadable files on this web site are provided in the Adobe® Acrobat® or PDF format.
To view these files on your computer you need the Adobe® Reader® which can be obtained from the Adobe® web site free of charge. We recommend you use Version 8 of the Reader®.
If your computer uses an operating system other than Windows XP or Vista, other versions of the Reader® are also available on the Adobe® web site. We recommend you use the latest version available for your particular computer and operating system.
How to make Adobe® Reader® files download faster
All Adobe® Reader® files on our web site have been optimised for “page at a time downloading”. This is a technology that benefits our web site users who might be on slower Internet connections who may notice reasonable time lags before PDF (or Acrobat®) files open in their browser when downloaded from the Internet.
To benefit from this technology it is recommended that you make a small change to the Preferences of your Reader®. This change is the same for readers from version 6 onwards.
- Select Edit from the menu bar at the top of the Reader®.
- Then select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
- This will cause the Preferences window, like the window below, to open.
Then, in the Preferences window, make these changes:
- Select “Internet” from the Categories list on the left.
- Turn off (or uncheck) the check box for “Allow speculative downloading in the background”.
- Select “OK”.
